Stats Summary 2008-2009

This was the Tigers first season at 11-a-side football playing in a league 1 year above their age group. The lads learned a lot very quickly and achieved a very creditable 3rd place in the league above some decent teams of older boys. The playing stats read:

Tigers go 11-a-side a year early - August 2008

For the 2008-2009 season the Tigers will play 11-a-side at under 12 level on Sundays and 7-a-side mini-soccer at under 11 on Saturdays.

For Sundays the squad will comprise of all the retained Saturday under 11 players with additional lads added to make up the larger squad necessary for 11-a-side.

The transition from 7-a-side mini soccer to 11-a-side football is a big one and we wish to give the lads the chance to experience 11-a-side at the earliest opportunity to develop their understanding of the game. There will be an enormous number of learning points for the lads over the course of the season including the offside rule, different team formations with additional players and more space to play in where the value of running off the ball, longer passing and good positional play will be much more apparent than it is in mini soccer.

Next season is all about learning and becoming accustomed to the 11-a-side game. While we will naturally strive to be successful, results will be secondary to the learning process and the focus will be on improvement and development over the course of the season.
